¡Hola！ ¿Cómo están？"El rey oscuro" es el inicio de una trilogía de fantasía oscura， la lucha entre el bien y el mal， la luz y la oscuridad ¿Quién vencerá？La historia nos presenta a un chico llamado Will Kempen， que se gana la vida trabajando en el puerto y que lleva casi toda su vida huyendo de algo o alguien que él no entiende y no sabe porque， en el transcurso de esa huida se encuentra con varios personajes uno de ellos Violet y junto con ella se ve atrapado en una guerra de miles de años atrá ¡Hola！ ¿Cómo están？"El rey oscuro" es el inicio de una trilogía de fantasía oscura， la lucha entre el bien y el mal， la luz y la oscuridad ¿Quién vencerá？La historia nos presenta a un chico llamado Will Kempen， que se gana la vida trabajando en el puerto y que lleva casi toda su vida huyendo de algo o alguien que él no entiende y no sabe porque， en el transcurso de esa huida se encuentra con varios personajes uno de ellos Violet y junto con ella se ve atrapado en una guerra de miles de años atrás。Y así inicia toda la historia， llena de amistad， traición， poderes ocultos， destrucción， oscuridad， aliados， enemigos， magia， personajes entrañables y complejos， preguntas， respuestas， la búsqueda de identidad etc。Como todo inicio de saga es bastante introductoria， la historia está llena de información que tienes que procesar y estar al pendiente ya que esta te dará la pauta para entender cosas que sucederán en las siguientes entregas， pero esto no hará que se te haga pesada de leer ya que también la historia está llena de acción en cada página y tiene unos plot-twists que te quedas con la boca abierta （en mi caso así fue）。En cuanto al romance a la autora le gusta ir muy Slow-Burn， nos da pequeños fragmentos con los cuales podemos imaginar， especular o fangirlear de entre quienes se pueden dar o formar y yo espero que la autora en las siguientes entregas nos dé más de eso， （no se si vaya a suceder， pero mantengo las esperanzas）。En fin， esperemos que pronto salga la siguiente parte para continuar conociendo este mundo que la autora ha creado。Recomendado para amantes de la fantasía。Espero que estén bienSaludos :） 。。。more

Es una historia peculiar y enrevesada。 Una trama elaborada。 Pero quizás esperaba más y la narración es algo que no me ha cautivado y no sé decir por qué。Repito que la historia es fantástica， con sus plot twits， y sus sorpresas。 A lo mejor ha mezclado demasiadas cosas y eso es el fallo que le veo。El final ha dado mucha mas vida al libro y me ha gustado。Es prácticamente autoconclusivo pero se sabe que va a ser trilogía。

-I want to give this 5 stars， but I have significant criticisms that drop it down to a 4。5。-The worldbuilding and the plot at first seem incredibly generic， but this is flipped on its head partway through， and then flipped again towards the end。 So if you're getting bored reading it， I encourage you to push through because it is so worth it。-The characters are a little bit one note， they're entertaining and likable， but it's the plot happening around them which makes them dynamic， they don't gro -I want to give this 5 stars， but I have significant criticisms that drop it down to a 4。5。-The worldbuilding and the plot at first seem incredibly generic， but this is flipped on its head partway through， and then flipped again towards the end。 So if you're getting bored reading it， I encourage you to push through because it is so worth it。-The characters are a little bit one note， they're entertaining and likable， but it's the plot happening around them which makes them dynamic， they don't grow or change much。-There are some exceptions however: Cyprian and James are both fascinating characters， and the way this book ends make me excited to see how Will's development goes in the rest of the series。-Will and Violet's friendship is really sweet and wholesome。-Will and James' chemistry is absolutely electric and it's basically their dynamic that kept me interested in continuing to read through the beginning。-On the other hand， Will has absolutely no chemistry with Katherine。 And Katherine herself is pretty much a footnote of a character compared to everyone else。 And because of this， the climax ends up not impacting as much as it should。 It's still somewhat impactful， but only because of how it effects other characters。 Katherine should have had more POV and story in this book。 As is， she's basically a plot device。-The writing is sometimes incredible， and the actual events of the climax are brilliantly tense and exciting。-The plot twists in this book are insane and you definitely don't see them coming。-Violet's relationship with her family should have been a bigger deal in this book， but I guess Pacat is saving that for future installments。（view spoiler）[-I also just don't understand Devon at all。 I don't understand why he wants to serve the Dark King， I don't understand why he killed Robert。 He said something about unicorns not being what Robert expected， but that goes absolutely nowhere。 Also why is he human-shaped？ Do unicorns just have a humanoid form？ Is it unique to him？ We saw actual horselike unicorns so it can't be that that's just what they are。 I feel like we should've got an explanation about him in this book， and if we don't get it in future books then he's just a plot convenience that doesn't make sense。 Also I got vibes that he was dating Tom from one scene， but after that it was just dropped。 And then we find out that he at least appears to be a lot younger than Tom （I think， anyway）， so maybe I was just reading into it。-We should've gotten more of Elizabeth's reaction to finding out she was blood of the Lady。 Violet and Cyprian just decide what to do with her， and we don't get a single line of dialogue from her in reaction while they talk about her like she's not there。 （hide spoiler）]WARNINGS: Gore， moderate homophobia， racism， underage marriage， death of a parent， referenced genocide， referenced colonialism， PTSD 。。。more

evitar el regreso del Rey Oscuro。Es probable que todo lo que diga a continuación haga sonar el libro como un mal libro， pero no creo que lo sea， solo que es simplón y con aires de grandeza。 Me jugó en contra el hype desmedido， las críticas （que no entiendo） y la bella portada， además， todo el mundo hablaba del tremendo final y los giros。 No esperaba mucho y aun así me decepcionó。 Quiero aclarar que el libro lo sentí mucho más infantil y sencillo de lo que esperaba， podría haber sido un Alfaguara juvenil o Puck， casi middle-grade por momentos。Su construcción es tan sencilla y cliché que no me lo podía creer。 Realmente es la historia de un grupo de niños que se unen para pelear contra el Rey Oscuro （contra su regreso）， creen que saben más que los adultos y encuentran sus propias soluciones a los problemas。 Es literal el cliché del grupo de amigos que apoyan al elegido en su lucha。 Es que tiene todo: el elegido， la chica fuerte e independiente y el que no creía en los anteriores， pero terminó trabajando con ellos。 Hay hasta un personaje tipo maestro （mujer， para ser moderno y acorde a los tiempos） que habla con frases rebuscadas tipo "nuestro poder no está en nuestra fuerza， sino que en lo que recordamos" y así todo el tiempo。Will es。。。 Harry Potter y cualquier cliché del elegido， un Eragon también podría ser （Percy nunca， porque ese está bien hecho y con carisma）。 Parte siendo un chico perdido que no tiene idea de lo que sucede， solo intenta sobrevivir， pero después de tres meses que pasan de la forma más mágica posible resulta que es un personaje serio y super inteligente que logra entender los complicados giros de la trama que los demás adultos que llevaban años en esa guerra jamás comprendieron。 No lo odio， de verdad， solo que se me hizo bastante insípido。A Violet la autora la hizo sin cariño。 Entiendo lo que quizo hacer， poner a una chica fuerte que fuera la guerrera （rol que se solía dar a hombres）， pero tiene menos personalidad que Will。 De verdad， es un personaje que no tiene mucho carisma o personalidad， solo actúa acorde a lo que indica la situación y las distintas lealtades que van surgiendo en ella。Cyprian （tuve que buscar su nombre porque ya lo había olvidado） tuvo potencial al inicio， al ser ese personaje que odiaba a Violet y Will， pero después se diluyó en nada。 Siento que no tuvo mayor propósito que ser un +1 en las peleas， porque para la segunda mitad no tenía ni personalidad ni fin en la historia。 Era monotemático "Marcus， Marcus， Marcus" y cuando ya no pudo usar ese tema， perdió cualquier piedra angular de su personalidad。A Katherine también la hizo sin amor （¿será algo contra los personajes femeninos？ Ahora que lo pienso， ningún personaje femenino estuvo bien construido）。 Su rol en la historia era evidente desde el inicio， pero fue tan。。。 tonto。 Entiendo la ingenuidad， sin embargo， con ella fue llevado al extremo en que su personaje parecía el de una niña de 13 años。 Katherine ni siquiera fue construida como personaje completo， siento que fue más algo tipo una herramienta para la autora。 O， peor aun， una herramienta para el "desarrollo" del personaje de Will para los siguientes libros。Admito que me gustó James， ahora no me sorprende que así fuera por los otros libros de la autora。 Parece que James es el único personaje al que le puso un poco de cariño， o puede que fuera porque salió poco。 Aun así fue coherente su construcción y sus motivaciones。 Parecía tener una personalidad más clara e interesante que todos los demás juntos。 Por él， quizá siga con los demás libros。Sobre la construcción del mundo。。。 es que no hay。 El inicio del libro parece construido sobre arena， porque van pasando cosas mágicas que solo aceptamos， porque no nos aterrizan la magia ni el El Rey Oscuro， la Espada Tenebrosa， la Roca Tenebrosa， etc。 Really？No entiendo que la historia transcurra en Londres si nunca nos dan ni un mínimo de ambientación de Londres， podría haber sido cualquier ciudad aleatoria de un mundo de fantasía。 Hubiese preferido que fuera un lugar inventado。 Además， las distancias eran muy extrañas， llegaban de un punto a otro como si estuvieran a un par de metros de distancia。 Había un lugar que era mágico y secreto， pero los "malos" entraron dos veces。 Siento que la autora me describió varios lugares y detalles， aunque para el final nada de eso me ayudó a sentir la ambientación ni un poco más real。 Todo se sintió de cartón。Se me hizo muy largo el libro （y aburrido）。 Estoy a favor de partir las historias con acción y que el lector vaya descifrando lo que sucede a medida que van pasando cosas， de hecho， me gusta eso。 Acá solo fue mucha acción que se sintió vacía， luego un ritmo lento con información， que volvió a sentirse vacío， y después vino un desenlace。。。 que parecía una broma。 Creo que si las cosas anteriores que mencioné （trama， personajes， mundo） hubieran estado bien desarrollados la estructura podría haberme funcionado， pero no fue el caso。Tengo que hablar del final y de los giros， pero lo haré sin spoilers。 TODO el mundo dijo que el final era de infarto， que no se lo veían venir， que era asombroso， que cómo la autora logró llegar a ese momento y cosas así。 No。 Lo。 Entiendo。 De verdad que no lo entiendo， es que todo lo anunciaban desde el inicio， todos los giros parecían anunciados con carteles de neón y no soy especialmente buena en entenderlos。 Pero es que acá era EVIDENTE al punto de que me dolía。 No me creí que recién en la página 402 me dijeran lo que supe desde antes de abrir el libro。Le di el beneficio de la duda hasta el final， porque el giro me parecía tan obvio desde el inicio que me dije que en realidad debía de ser un giro del giro o algo así。 Algo como que dirían lo que se sabe desde los primeros capítulos a la mitad， para al final volver a cambiar todo。 No。 No lo hacen。 El libro es tan tan tan evidente con sus pistas que no me lo podía creer。 De hecho， más que un final de infarto， fue un final que se me hizo ridículo en su planteamiento， desde Simon siendo un desperdicio de personaje， hasta el "aporte" de Katherine y el de Devon （que personaje más aleatorio salido de la nada）。De verdad es que no entiendo cómo es que este libro tiene esas calificaciones。 Ningún aspecto de su construcción logró estar ni siquiera dentro de lo "bueno"， todo apenas rozando lo decente o menos， en algunos casos。 Lo único que de verdad funcionó fue la química de Will y James， porque era algo que la autora había hecho en otros libros。 Literal que fue lo único que me podría medianamente interesar para seguir， porque el mundo o la trama no me importan lo más mínimo。El Rey Oscuro es un inicio de trilogía que parece más infantil que juvenil， con un mundo sencillo y sin mucha profundidad en su concepción; una trama que avanza como exactamente una se lo podría esperar y personajes que no destacaban mucho。 El final de infarto se anunciaba desde el inicio， así que no tiene ninguna Overall I enjoyed the book。 Unlike a lot of the low-star reviews， I didn't mind the pacing。 Naturally since this is the first book in a fantasy series there's bound to be more world-building。 The plot itself is well-crafted - the magic， the world。 Or maybe just better prose， I don't know。 When I read the LOTR I get a sense of wonder - not so the world of Dark Rise。It's a very emotionally intense & dark story， but none of that emotion is properly conveyed to the reader， so it all just falls flat。 The story is told from 3 different perspectives - Will， Violet， & Katherine - the main character still being Will。 This format soort of makes sense for a couple of scenes， but don't think it was used to its full potential。 To me， the reason for splitting chapters between characters is to show important scenes/thoughts that only that character has access to， and also to create more of an emotional bond between reader & character， since we're reading from their perspectives & seeing their thoughts。 Pacat is terrible at the latter in this book。 None of the characters are really likeable， and they don't have personalities。 The characters seem really repetitive， all they think & talk about is their personal struggles， there's no moment of connection outside of duty。 I think because the book is so dark it doesn't leave much room for joking or any interactions that aren't heavy and intense， so you never feel like the characters are friends so much as soldiers fighting for the same side。 Will: Will is。。。disappointing。 This was a character that had a lot of potential for suspense-building & really making the reader connect to him emotionally， especially given the tragedy that he's recently been through。 His story is really dark， and as I was reading I felt like I should feel more connected to this character。 The author doesn't delve very deeply into his emotional life， asides from him having flashbacks to his mom's death & briefly glossing over his childhood in literally one sentence。 As the reader you don't really feel like you know anything about Will other than he's noble & cares for his friends， which is for suspense mainly， but the way these traits are written just make him seem really boring。 The only time Will becomes remotely interesting is when he's around James。 He's supposed to have this otherworldly connection with Katherine， but that felt very forced。 Throughout most of the book Will feels like just a witness to things。 Through his eyes you see the unfolding of the "old world" & the occasional flashback to， again， his mother dying。。。and that's really it。 He just does things because they're the right thing to do， but there's no conflict， no tension。 He's the good guy， blood of the lady， and this is his role。 He's mired in mystery， and that's really all that keeps the book going。The only tension I feel is between him & James， obviously because there's a Romeo & Juliet dynamic， but also because they seem to have a connection from their previous lives。 So much so， that the book feels like a very expensive and drawn-out set-up for the love story between Will & James， because their interactions are the only ones with any emotional punch to them （maybe I'm alone in this）。 I would have liked to hear more about his relationship with his mom， maybe give some early clues to what would have happened later on。 Also more about him as a person， his idiosyncrasies， anything to make him seem less robotic。 He is the MC after all。 Katherine: I don't think Katherine should have had her own chapters at all， as she's written。 I really disliked this character。 She comes off as shallow and dumb， and her importance to the plot is minimal until the very end。 It's a character that had a lot of potential， had it just been written slightly differently - if Katherine had been just a little smarter & more cunning & curious， not just a pretty girl who just wants to fit into society and act appropriate。 This was also a great opportunity to add some humor into the story or any levity， since she's the only one who's story for the majority of the book is not mired in tragedy。 Toward the end the author makes her less shallow， but not in a way that pays off to the reader at all。 I really think the author shit the bed with her。 Violet: Again， another missed opportunity。 She's infinitely more interesting than Katherine （not that that's too big a feat） but her development feels rather rushed。 She's supposed to have this intense connection with Will， but again the story is too dark to feel like they're friends rather than。。。co-workers？ I would have liked to see more between her and her brother， & her & her step-mom and how that shaped her。 Again， there were opportunities for levity & humour that were missed。 James: Asides from Will， the best written character in the book so far。 Basically Laurent in a different circumstance。 His relationship with Will is mysterious & there's obviously a very deep connection there。 I don't think I would have kept reading if he hadn't been in this book。 。。。more
